Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.
Originally from Earth-One, as far as Eddie knows, he's the last survivor who remembers his home universe. When the surviving Earths from the original multiverse were folded together into a "gestalt Earth" following the first Crisis, some of the heroes gained new histories... and some, like Blue Devil's friends, were largely transferred over 'whole cloth'.
There was no clear delineation of Eddie's Earth-One history, and that of New Earth's Eddie Bloomberg, until after the second Crisis. He managed to avoid a reset by the gestalt Earth until it was replaced by New Earth, but he was displaced by the New Earth version of himself in the history of the world.

[Regarding the "played by"/faceclaim: this account was created six months before Gotham premiered and long before any storyline to do with the Valeskas. What Cameron Monaghan gets hired to do has nothing to do with me!]
